As we observe Veterans Day, I am reminded of the legacy of my grandfather, Ernest Albiero, who fought with courage and conviction for our Nation. Drafted at 18 years old, he left behind his family and all he knew to serve under General Patton in some of the hardest days of World War II. Wounded in battle, he returned home forever changed yet proud, carrying his sacrifice quietly, without bitterness.
To him, and to countless others who have served, the U.S. flag was more than a symbol. It was a commitment — a commitment that transcends time, conflict, and hardship. My grandfather taught me the meaning of service, not only through his words but through his actions, both on and off the battlefield. In his final days, he encouraged me to enlist in the U.S. Army, believing that service would shape me as it had shaped him. Following in his footsteps was one of the greatest honors of my life.
Today, we honor the men and women of every generation who have taken up the call, standing for us so that we may live in peace and security. To our veterans: your courage, dedication, and service inspire us. May we never forget the sacrifices you have made for our country. I encourage each of us to take a moment, every day, at 11:11, to reflect on and appreciate the dedication of those who have served and to honor their commitment.
Thank you for your service, and may you always find strength in knowing that you are remembered, honored, and appreciated — today and every day.
Happy Veterans Day.
