Instructions for Participating in FMC Hearing Examining Impacts from Threats to Shipping

The Federal Maritime Commission today issued detailed instructions on how interested members of the public can participate in February’s informal hearing examining impacts to shipping and supply chains resulting from current conditions in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden Regions.

The instructions were published in the Federal Register and address requirements for attending in-person and presenting testimony, as well as how to submit written comments or testimony for the record.

All requests to present testimony during the hearing, and written comments and testimony for the record, must be submitted to the Office of the Secretary by 5:00 pm (Eastern) on January 31, 2024.

The Federal Register notice also provides instructions on how to seek confidential treatment for submitted comments and testimony.

The hearing is scheduled for February 7, 2024, and will extend to February 8, 2024, if necessary to meet public demand to present testimony. The hearing will be held in the Surface Transportation Board Hearing Room located at 395 E Street, SW, Washington, D.C. 20423. Public attendance is welcomed but seating is limited and will be provided on a first come basis.

The hearing will be live streamed on the Commission’s YouTube channel. If technical issues prevent the Commission from streaming live, the Commission will post a recording of the meeting as soon as possible on the Commission’s YouTube channel.

Registration is not required to view the live stream.
