Federal Maritime Commission Chairman Daniel Maffei met with key maritime industry stakeholders in April, delivering the keynote address to members of the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America, Inc. (NCBFAA) at the organization’s 51st Annual Conference held in Fort Lauderdale, FL and separately meeting with the leadership of Port Everglades.
Chairman Maffei highlighted to the NCBFAA audience key accomplishments of the Commission in recent months, including publishing final rule of Demurrage and Detention Billing Practices, and how the agency is responding to supply chain disruptions caused by events in the Red Sea, the Panama Canal, and Baltimore.
“The complexity of supply chains and the difficulty in predicting where changes may occur are only increasing. As freight forwarders are required to become even more sophisticated at risk mitigation, they will provide ever more valuable services to an economy that is becoming no less global but far more unpredictable,” said Chairman Maffei.
While in Fort Lauderdale, Chairman Maffei had meetings at Port Everglades with Acting Port Director Glenn Wiltshire and his senior management team. The meetings at Port Everglades included the opportunity to get a ground level view of container terminal operations.
